Dr. Christopher G. Byers received his BS degree in Animal Sciences from Colorado State University, and graduated as a University Honors Scholar. He earned his DVM degree from Cornell University. He is a practicing, board-certified veterinary specialist in both emergency/critical care and small animal internal medicine. He is a Certified Veterinary Journalist and the founder and editor of the popular blog, CriticalCareDVM – Because Pets Can Have Specialists Too! He is a frequent presenter at regional, national, and international continuing education meetings, and can be found on all major social media sites (including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr) as CriticalCareDVM. Dr. Byers has written several textbook chapters and has published scientific papers in various peer-reviewed journals. He has co-authored the textbook, Handbook of Veterinary Emergency Protocols: Dog and Cat, and the second edition was published in 2014. Dr. Byers also enjoys clinical research, and his current areas of interest are abdominal compartment syndrome and immune-mediated diseases.
